At Virginia Primary School OSHC, our vision for reconciliation is to create and sustain a learning environment that is authentically grounded in the five interrelated dimensions of Reconciliation: race relations, equality and equity, institutional integrity, unity and historical acceptance. These dimensions guide our decision-making, our relationships and our commitment to ethical and culturally safe practice. For our service, reconciliation is centred on relationships, respect and responsibility. These values underpin the way we engage with children, families, educators and our broader community. We acknowledge the Kaurna people, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which our OSHC operates, and we commit to building meaningful, respectful and ongoing relationships with Kaurna Elders, families and community representatives. We recognise that reconciliation is a continuous journey that requires active participation, reflection and genuine partnership. We are dedicated to embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of being, knowing and doing across all principles, practices and outcomes of the My Time, Our Place framework and Belonging, Being and Becoming . This covers school students and preschool children in our framework . This includes ensuring children regularly engage with First Nations perspectives through play, storytelling, art, movement, connections to Country, and the co-construction of learning experiences. Our service is committed to ensuring all educators participate in purposeful and culturally responsive professional learning and development. This includes opportunities that support the ongoing processes of learning, un-learning and re-learning, enabling educators to strengthen their cultural competence, challenge bias and uphold inclusive practices. We will continue to work towards creating a culturally safe environment that celebrates diversity, honours truth-telling and uplifts the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
