VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

At Mother Duck we recognise and value the cultural histories, heritages, knowledges and pedagogies of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (Zenadth Kes) peoples. The Lands on which we work and learn through play are and always have been Aboriginal Land. We see caring for the environment and each other our responsibility.

As part of our ongoing commitment to reconciliation we acknowledge with sorrow the loss of family, cultural identity, lands, waters, languages and communities by many First Nations peoples as a result of colonisation and the continuing impacts of this. Our shared history continues to affect current and future generations leading to long-term consequences of social inequality and injustice. Reconciliation means taking steps to right these wrongs.

Reconciliation begins with the work we do to respectfully embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples perspectives, knowledges and pedagogies throughout our daily work and play. This work must be respectful, authentic and intentional. It is important work and we are proud to do it.

Mother Duck pedagogy and practice is driven by our shared image of all children as powerful and capable individuals. We view children as capable of actively contributing towards reconciliation at Mother Duck and in their community. Alongside children, families, community and each other, we are working towards reconciliation underpinned by the shared value of social responsibility. We want to ensure all people feel welcome, accepted and valued in our shared spaces. Through meaningful relationships between First Nations peoples, the wider Australian community and critically reflective practices, we seek to empower all members of our learning community to actively work towards reconciliation.

We acknowledge the ongoing work for justice, truth-telling and healing and commit to this important work.

We pledge to keep the principles of reconciliation at the forefront of our work. It always was and always will be Aboriginal Land.
