VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

At Kaniva Kindergarten, our vision for reconciliation is for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families, and community members to feel culturally safe, experience belonging, and thrive in an inclusive learning environment.  We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the Land on which we learn and play, honouring their continuing connections to Country and paying respect to Elders past and present. We recognise that reconciliation is an ongoing journey requiring reflection, learning, and meaningful action.   We support all children to deepen their understanding of our shared histories and the rich cultures, stories, and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. By learning about cultures other than our own, we build the respect needed to walk together toward a kinder, more equitable, reconciled future.   Our relationships with local Elders, knowledge holders, and community members strengthen our cultural learning as we ensure we guide respectful practice. We empower children to participate in this journey by nurturing empathy, curiosity, and a genuine connection to Country.  We are guided by the values of curiosity, courage, character, and respect, and commit to creating a community where every child and family feels valued, connected, and celebrated.          At Kaniva Kindergarten, we commit to fostering understanding, respect, and meaningful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We value the rich knowledge, languages, and traditions of the Wotjobaluk people and strive to embed this understanding within our learning environment.  We encourage children to develop a deep respect for Country and its custodians, nurturing curiosity, empathy, and cultural awareness. Through learning together, we honour the past, acknowledge the present, and work towards a future strengthened by reconciliation.
