At Malin Friends, we have maintained a passion since the centre's inception to develop and maintain a framework for reconciliation. We acknowledge and respect the spiritual relationship that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have with their Traditional Lands and Waters, as well as the diversity of First Nations peoples’ histories, cultures, contributions, and perspectives. We pay respect to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Peoples of Australia and Custodians of this Land. Malin Friends recognises and respects Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across the entire continent of Australia, envisioning to move forward together with care, respect, togetherness and understanding.
At Malin Friends we will continue to teach children appropriate and respectful terminology in all areas of the program, immersing children in learning about the local history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and Country. We will continue to engage with the local First Nations community, deepening our knowledge and, in turn, children's knowledge through programs that incorporate understanding Country, improving relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous people, respecting First Nations peoples’ cultures, and acknowledging our shared histories. We acknowledge the wrongdoings, past and ongoing, and have a vision for collective healing through inclusion, support, and meaningful relationships, guided by the five dimensions of reconciliation; historical acceptance, unity, equality and equity, race relations, institutional integrity.
