VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

At Raleigh Street Community Childrens Centre, we respectfully acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation, who are the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the Land on which we live and learn. Our vision for reconciliation is to promote equality, equity and unity between our centres community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We seek to value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander true histories, cultures and perspectives, and to acknowledge that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples histories are diverse. We recognise that early learning centres have an especially important role to play in the reconciliation process. We acknowledge that reconciliation is about respect, responsibility, awareness, and strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-indigenous peoples, and that process should begin at the earliest moment of our education: the early learning centre. Starting the reconciliation process early establishes a foundation of knowledge and awareness that can be built not only throughout our children's education, but also throughout their lifetimes. We continue taking real action to further our commitment to reconciliation by implementing initiatives not only in the classroom but also among staff, family and all other members of our community. It is our responsibility to identifying and addressing all instances of racism in our community and be open to new perspectives towards our approach. We continue to respectfully work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members, and act on their advice on how to create a safe, inclusive, equitable, accepting and diverse environment, andwe will respectfully embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples perspectives across all parts of our centres culture.
