At Nowra Preschool Education Centre, our vision for Reconciliation, is to create an atmosphere which supports and strengthens the knowledge and relationships between our service, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Within this vision, we hope to particularly strengthen our relationship with the Wandi-Wandandian peoples of the Yuin Nation, who localised to the area south of the Shoalhaven River, as well as the Dharawal peoples of the Yuin Nation who live north of the river - The Traditional Owners of the Land upon which we play and learn every day.
Together educators and children will be supported and encouraged to learn in a way which further develops understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures, exploring the shared history and the rich traditions of Country and people. Through shared learning and development is the only way for us to truly create a knowledge base for true value, honour and respect to be supported. With this in mind we take on a commitment to learning collaboratively and walking together toward a common goal of knowing and reconciling with the Traditional Custodians of this nation, in order to raise awareness, and create equity and equality for all, building a relationship built on respect, trust and informed learning toward Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their cultures.
We also strive to achieve a sense of reconciliation, whilst exploring our service philosophy, using Imagination, Passion and Integrity to guide our learning and inspire our community to deepen cultural understanding through investigation and curiosity as the basis for future learning.
Furthermore, we aim to create an environment where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families are given the opportunity to explore every life opportunity as all Australians. We hold the strong belief that all children, young people and families share the same right to be safe, thriving and hopeful.
At Nowra Preschool Education Centre we believe in providing better understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures to develop an enriched appreciation of Australia’s cultural heritage and can lead to reconciliation. This is essential to the maturity of Australia as a nation and fundamental to the development of an Australian identity.
