“At its heart, reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples, for the benefit of all Australians.” - Reconciliation Australia
It is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories and the cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, exploring how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. At Corrimal Community Preschool this means that we, along with children and families, are on a journey to learn as much as we can about First Nations peoples’ histories, stories, cultures and continuing contributions. We strive for each generation to know more than previous generations and to do better at conserving truthful understanding of our nation’s past, and progress towards a stronger future of reconciliation. We continue to respectfully embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into our preschool culture moving forward.
Reconciliation must live in our hearts, minds and in the actions of all Australians. We strive to learn with children and to acknowledge the many inequalities and inequities that First Nations Peoples have faced since colonisation, as well as their strength and resilience in the face of these injustices. We continue to acknowledge and respect the Traditional Custodians of the Land on which we live, learn, and prosper.
