Tillys Play and Development Centre Greta educators believes that reconciliation means healing from the past while building respectful, honest, and ongoing relationships with First Nations peoples. It involves acknowledging historical and current injustices, taking responsibility, and committing to understanding and empathy. Reconciliation is also about educating ourselves and others so we can learn from each other and move forward together. A reconciled Australia looks like a country where truth-telling is honoured, treaties are respected, and the diverse cultures, histories, and languages of First Nations peoples are recognised, celebrated, and embedded in everyday life. It feels safe, connected, empowering, and hopeful. A place where First Nations peoples are heard, respected, and have genuine influence and agency. Based on our reconciliation journey and learnings so far, our next most powerful steps involve deepening our connections, continuing to build confidence in our conversations and actions, and working together as individuals and teams. We will embrace learning through research, reflection, and experience. Understanding that progress may be slow, but consistency and commitment are key. We recognise that simple actions can have powerful impacts and that allowing ourselves to make mistakes is a vital part of meaningful growth. We are committed to engaging with First Nations voices, communities, children, and families in our care in order to be positive advocates for inclusion, truth, and understanding. We aim to share our learning journey openly, model respectful practices, and ensure reconciliation is lived and felt by the children, families, and wider community we serve.
