VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

At The Discovery House, we acknowledge the Dharug People as the Traditional Custodians of the Land on which we work, learn, and play. We pay our deepest respect to Elders past and present and recognise their continuing connection to Country, culture, and community.

Our team of educators is deeply committed to our Reconciliation Action Plan. Together, we are on a shared journey of learning — seeking guidance and inspiration to better understand Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and contributions. We recognise that reconciliation requires ongoing reflection, open dialogue, and meaningful action.

Reconciliation to us means acknowledging the truth of our shared history, embracing diverse perspectives, and committing to practices that honour First Nations cultures. We aim to respectfully embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices and perspectives throughout our programs, environments, and daily interactions.

We are actively building relationships with our local Dharug community, knowing that reconciliation is rooted in listening, connection, and mutual respect. We understand that this knowledge is both powerful and sensitive, and we are committed to engaging with it thoughtfully and respectfully.

Our goal is to ensure the wellbeing, cultural safety, and inclusion of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families, and community members. Every educator at The Discovery House is committed to ongoing professional learning to support this aim and to share knowledge with children in ways that are age-appropriate, respectful, and meaningful.

We believe that by fostering understanding in our early years setting, we create a ripple effect — where children grow up with respect for culture, truth-telling, and connection to Country. Reconciliation is a responsibility we all share, and we are proud to walk this path together.
