VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

Purrutyi Tirkalirkalarna Yalura (Every Student Matters).     At Valley View Secondary School, we commit to aligning our school values to our vision for reconciliation.     Respect   We respect the land which VVSS, is situated on and the spiritual connections that it holds. We recognise and respect the Kaurna land that exists beneath the foundation, buildings and walkways of our site. Our vision includes working with neighbouring nations to celebrate diverse cultures and perspectives of First Nations peoples. We will continue to appreciate their connection to sky Country, sea Country, and surrounding Lands.       Resilience   In partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, we acknowledge the healing journey that is taking place since colonisation, helping to develop a shared understanding of true histories. We acknowledge that First Nations Australians have demonstrated incredible strength and resilience in the face of immense adversity, and we recognise the long-term impact caused by historical injustices. This understanding paves the way towards reconciliation and an inclusive future at VVSS.      Communication   We aspire to communicate with community members to ensure First Nations voices and perspectives are prioritised in our teaching and learning. We aim to raise awareness and teach the true histories of Australia supported by strong reciprocal relationships with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Education is a valuable tool used to acknowledge and communicate to our students the importance of reconciling Australia's history.        Attitude   At VVSS, we commit to gaining authentic perspectives from the wider community and ensuring we have a supportive attitude towards embedding First Nations perspectives into our teaching. We will ensure there is opportunity for every member of our community to take part in our reconciliation journey. It is imperative that our teaching reflects our positive attitude towards Aboriginal Education through a culturally responsive framework.
