VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

The vision for reconciliation at Glenelg Primary School involves embracing truth-telling, celebrating and embedding First Nations cultures as well as removing barriers so that every student has the opportunity to achieve their full potential.     At the heart of reconciliation is the truth - the truth about Australia's history post-colonisation, and the remarkable endurance of a culture that has survived for more than 65,000 years. There are uncomfortable parts of Australia's history to be openly acknowledged. But by recognising and celebrating the true skills, creativity, resilience and knowledge of First Nations people it will help create a culture of respect that spreads beyond the fences of our school into families and the wider community.    Consultation with students, teachers and parents has shown a strong desire to deepen our engagement with Kaurna and other First Nations cultures. This is encouraging and exciting for our school. Part of our vision is to continue working on our meaningful engagement with the local Kaurna community, learning from knowledge holders and developing a respect for the Kaurna people, the Traditional Custodians of the Land on which Glenelg Primary School stands.   As a school we are also committed to addressing barriers that may be impacting the learning opportunities of First Nations students. The ongoing impacts of historical trauma continue to affect many families in many ways and by walking together in truth, respect and kindness, we can empower every student to reach their full, amazing potential.
