VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

Sunshine Coast Grammar Schools vision for reconciliation is for our community to embrace unity between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other Australians. Through our curriculum and school culture, we can build historical acceptance of our shared history and move toward positive and inclusive relationships. Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all staff and students at Sunshine Coast Grammar School as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Our school prides itself on developing the core values of respect, integrity, compassion and servant leadership, underpinned by Christian faith, which are inextricably linked to the values required for sustained reconciliation. It is our vision that all Sunshine Coast Grammar School students embrace reconciliation, are educated and well-informed cultural citizens and seek an equitable future.

For Sunshine Coast Grammar School, reconciliation means working inclusively in a meaningful and respectful way with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities. Building the cultural competencies of our staff is a priority of Sunshine Coast Grammar School, so that histories, traditions and current affairs can be respectfully shared and explored with our school community. By establishing a better understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples cultures, histories and perspectives, we develop an enriched appreciation of Australias cultural heritage and move towards the maturity of Australia as a nation. This will lead to the development of an Australian Identity based on mutual respect and trust and support reconciliation. It is a commitment of Sunshine Coast Grammar to work in collaboration and partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, organisations and communities.
