At Balwyn Primary School we celebrate the diversity of our community and aim to create a culturally safe environment where everyone feels respected and welcome. Balwyn Primary School recognises the vital role of education in creating a reconciled nation, and developing culturally responsive and aware citizens. We aim to promote cultural awareness and a shared cultural understanding with all community members. Balwyn Primary School embraces all opportunities to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to build meaningful relationships and support an ongoing dialogue. We endeavour to actively incorporate First Nations peoples perspectives and knowledge in our classrooms to support students in developing a critical understanding of our shared history. We will promote learning opportunities that celebrate and incorporate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures, to create authentic opportunities for continuous learning and relearning. Our vision is for all of our school community members to understand our role in reconciliation and for everyone to value and learn about the perspectives and living cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We will continue to strive to create a culturally safe space for all people, take action against racism or discrimination and continue to make our school a space where everyone belongs.
