Reconciliation must live in all our hearts and minds. We acknowledge the Gadigal of the Eora Nation who are the Traditional Custodians of the Land on which Sydney Girls High School stands. We pay respect to the Elders past, present and emerging of this land and extend that same respect to other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People within the Sydney Girls High School community. Reconciliation is everyones business. Reconciliation remains our ongoing unfinished business because it means that as educators, we seek to assist students in their personal journeys of growth in education in such a way that they are cognisant of its true histories and ongoing impacts on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The measure of our success in the ongoing process of reconciliation is seen in terms of the extent to which we can promote each of the following: truth-telling and historical acceptance of the past; a positive attitude to race relations moving forward into the future; championing the values of integrity, equity and equality as cornerstones of our practice; and maintaining and augmenting our integrity as an institution that accepts and values the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members, all teachers and all learners. We are united in our view that reconciliation actions are only truly embedded within the life of the school community when they are so much a part of everyday practice that they no longer feel like special events that celebrate difference but project a common respect that embodies our common purpose.  Â
