At St Michaels SCECS OSHC, reconciliation means creating an out of school hours care environment that embodies inclusion at the very core of our practice. We aim to create a learning program that respectfully embeds and celebrates First Nations peoples’ perspectives, knowledges and acknowledging their deep histories through in depth targeted learning experiences from educators in collaboration with local Cammeraygal Aboriginal Community members. We understand that equality and equity is the very base in the steps towards reconciliation, and we want to see every child and staff member learn about and express inclusive practices in everything we do, which we aim to achieve by explicitly teaching about reconciliation and taking every possible step to eradicate racism and exclusion from our centre by re-learning culturally safe practices. We commit to working towards reconciliation because we want to give the children in our care every tool they need to acknowledge and learn from our shared histories in order walk besides Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples from now on with unity.
