VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

We at Explorers Early Learning Essendon are committed to reconciliation, as well as increasing our awareness and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their histories, contributions and cultures. We acknowledge and respect the Traditional Owners of the Land, on which our centre is built. We envision a future where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are recognised and celebrated as being the First Peoples of Australia. We continue to learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples perspectives, histories and cultures and respectfully share our learnings and understandings with our Explorers community.   We are building relationships with the local First Nations community, finding opportunities to attend local events and make connections with local First Nations people We commit to ongoing learning and professional development for our staff and by promoting our inclusive early childhood programs.  We will seek advice and knowledge from Elders, and their community, who choose to share their knowledge and teach us about their cultural heritages, customs and traditions. We will also research and intentionally seek out answers to our questions.   We will embrace the concepts and ideas about reconciliation and perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with respect, open hearts and inclusive minds.   To develop an enriched appreciation of Australia's cultural heritage, we must develop a better understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures.  This is essential to the maturity of Australia as a nation and fundamental to the development of an Australian identity.
