For Australia, the term 'reconciliation' refers to creating a sense of togetherness between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians, which is built upon truth, justice, forgiveness and healing. With this definition in mind, our vision for reconciliation is for unity, equality and equity within our Early Learning Service. Reconciliation is more than just a word, it’s an action that must be felt through the whole body and come alive through a united force and continuous progress towards sustainable change. Only with this approach will reconciliation influence a strengthened nation which is built upon reciprocal relationships between all Australian communities.
At Learning Avenues Early Education, Care and Kindergarten, we strive to be a place where the values, cultures and rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are respectfully embedded across our learning environments and teaching practices. We will support educators to continuously strive towards building their cultural responsiveness and confidence to respectfully teach about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ perspectives and ways of knowing and being. We understand that the children we are teaching now will become those that shape the trajectory of the future response to reconciliation in Australia. We are committed to building positive relationships with the local First Nations communities and collaborating with, and supporting, the local community to be inclusive and respectful of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures.
