VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

Little Acorns Childcare recognises the importance and significance of First Nations peoples and how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures have continued to shape Australia across generations. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have shown strength and resilience when faced with intergeneration colonial injustices and are the leaders of change in the journey for equality and equity.

Little Acorns Childcare commits to continually educating staff, families and children about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures, histories, customs and languages in an open, meaningful and respectful manner. We believe educating current and future generations is key to change, both within the service and within the broader community. Through education, individuals and groups are provided with knowledge to recognise and understand fair and unfair practices and then take action to address the injustices, towards a united Australia, where all people are valued, and where all have equal and equitable opportunities.

We see reconciliation as actively respecting the rights of all Australians to equal and equitable opportunities, positive change and bright futures. Reconciliation, to us, is a journey, not something that will happen overnight. We will continue to advocate for equality, equity, historical acceptance, healing and unity as we make forward steps in our journey.

At its heart, reconciliation is about coming together. We are committed to further developing relationships with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and to learning, through these connections, how to respectfully embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into our practices and our early childhood teachings.
