At Deception Bay Play and Learn, our vision for reconciliation is to create a learning environment where every child grows with a strong sense of belonging, identity, and connection to Country. We are always aiming to honour the cultures, histories and continuing contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and we are committed to ensuring these are represented respectfully and meaningfully within our service. We believe reconciliation begins in early childhood, through the relationships we build, the environments we create, and the everyday moments where children learn about themselves and others. Our vision is driven by a commitment to develop educator knowledge and confidence so that cultural safety, respect and pride are embedded naturally through play, storytelling, language, nature and shared experiences. We value and respect the guidance of local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and acknowledge the high demand placed on community knowledge holders. While opportunities for direct engagement may be limited, we remain committed to building strong relationships over time, seeking guidance appropriately, and ensuring our educators are equipped to uphold culturally responsive practices every day. We envision a future where reconciliation is lived, not just spoken about. Where First Nations cultures are visible and celebrated, and families feel welcomed and respected, and where every child is supported to grow with curiosity, empathy and pride as they walk alongside others in a spirit of unity and respect.
