VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

To the Hermit Park Outside School Hours Care service, reconciliation means fostering the development of positive, inclusive and mutually beneficial relationships with local First Nations communities, respecting diversity and supporting equity for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

A reconciled Australia, to us, is one without cultural barriers, which embraces diversity and provides the same opportunities to all people regardless of race, colour or background. It is a country in which there is zero tolerance of racism and one which is always looking towards a better future while not forgetting the mistakes of the past.

At Hermit Park OSHC, we make every effort to promote reconciliation wherever possible by celebrating important cultural events, and, with permission, sharing local knowledge, organising programmed cultural activities and by working together with Hermit Park State School to form meaningful and mutually beneficial ties with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in order that we might improve our cultural knowledge, insight and perspectives.

On our journey towards reconciliation, we plan to engage local community groups, the school, educators and families in the hope that together we can make a real, positive contribution to the creation of an equitable society for all Australians.
