Coogee Care Centre recognises and acknowledges the cultural histories and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Reconciliation to us is the acknowledgment and acceptance of responsibility and realising our part in providing equal and equitable opportunities moving forward. Our philosophy is inspired by the whale totem of the Gadigal people, a powerful symbol of culture, connection and community. It reminds us to honour Country and the shared journey we undertake together.Â
Our vision for this service is one that embeds Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in a meaningful way that has an impact on the way staff, children, families and the wider community understand the First Peoples of Australia. Â
We will ensure that all children are involved in the community through incursions and excursions where they can learn from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders in our area. We will consult with local Elders on how we can best update our practices in educating children, to ensure that our programming is effective and accurate. Â
We hope our students can become leaders and carry the spirit and actions of reconciliation into the future.Â
