At Victor Harbor World of Learning we value and recognise the work and teaching ways of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities around Australia and our local area. At Victor Harbor World of Learning, we believe that through intentional teaching opportunities we can develop each child’s understanding and raise awareness of and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories and cultures. By working together within our community, as well as being inclusive of all children and families, we can grow, learn and build a deeper understanding as we pave our way in creating stepping stones throughout our reconciliation journey. Our journey is one that will include each child, educator, family and members within the community, to raise awareness of and respect for the First Peoples of Australia as the oldest continuing culture in human history. We believe, as stated in the 2008 National Apology, that our reconciliation journey is about creating “a future based on mutual respect, mutual resolve and mutual responsibility”.
