Our vision for reconciliation is that all educators, children, and families, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, feel respected and culturally safe in our service. We are committed to creating and maintaining environments that foster inclusivity and safety, embedding culturally responsive practices within our daily learning programs.
At Balaclava Road Children's Centre, we proudly acknowledge the rights of all children and families, particularly the rights affirmed in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. This includes a dedication to respectfully learning about the rich histories and cultures of the Traditional Custodians of the Land on which we live, work, and play.
We are deeply committed to a vision of reconciliation that fosters intercultural respect, increasing cultural capability to build and maintain stronger, more meaningful, and reciprocal relationships between First Nations peoples and the broader community. We recognise the vital role of leadership and partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander educators, families, and communities in embedding cultural awareness and education with sensitivity and respect.
We honour the contributions of key educators, past and present, who have led efforts to increase cultural responsiveness within the centre. Their dedication to this journey alongside us is invaluable. Moving forward, we will continue to strengthen our relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring that our core activities provide ongoing opportunities to engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander educators and services.
