VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

At Headstart Oatlands, our vision for reconciliation is a culturally safe and inclusive environment where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and perspectives are respected and integrated in our everyday practices. We acknowledge the Dharug people as the Traditional Custodians of the Land on which we learn, play, and grow, and we acknowledge their ongoing connections to Country.

We are committed to fostering a deep understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ histories, cultures, and contributions among children, educators, families, and the wider community. Through meaningful relationships with First Nations peoples, we strive to respectfully integrate their knowledges and cultures into our curriculum and daily experiences.

Reconciliation at Headstart Oatlands is a shared journey—one of listening, learning, and taking action. We recognise the importance of truth-telling and acknowledge the past while working towards a future built on respect, unity, equality and equity. Our commitment extends beyond our centre, as we actively seek opportunities to engage with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

Through education and open dialogue, we will empower the current and next generations to acknowledge, respect and advocate for the richness and diversity of First Nations peoples and cultures. Together, we will nurture a future where reconciliation is woven into the fabric of our society, ensuring that all children grow up with an understanding of and respect for the First Peoples of Australia.
