Brookman Primary School

The vision for reconciliation at Brookman Primary School is for high-quality, meaningful learning opportunities for all students which reflect the core values of the school - respect, teamwork, safety and resilience. The students, staff and wider community of Brookman Primary School will develop their understanding of the cultures and histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

In committing to our vision for reconciliation, we will look to the past to create a better future. We will listen to, and acknowledge, the histories and stories as part of our commitment to truth-telling. We acknowledge and respect the diversity of First Nations peoples and cultures within our school and local community, meaningfully embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ perspectives across the curriculum and within the school environment.

We will support students, staff and the school community of Brookman Primary School to acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Australians and the Traditional Owners of Lands across Australia. We will acknowledge the true histories of Australia and the injustices which have occurred since colonisation as well as the strength and resilience of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We will create opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices to be heard and listened to, committing to collaboration and open communication between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other Australians, fostering positive change and healing. We commit to respecting and learning about the long and diverse histories of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and caring for the Noongar Country on which Brookman Primary School stands.
