The Australian Science and Mathematics School recognises that First Nations heritage is a gift to our school community and that reconciliation is both an opportunity and an obligation.
We will continually acknowledge the importance of reconciliation, and will include Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ perspectives and engage in truth telling as essential elements of our educational work and culture.
We respect and promote the Uluru Statement from the Heart and support First Nations peoples’ “aspirations for a fair and truthful relationship with the people of Australia and a better future for our children based on justice and self-determination”.
ASMS will incorporate and share First Nations cultures and perspectives through our pedagogies; with teaching and learning driven by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander practices, skills and knowledge.
As a school community we understand that reconciliation is a relationship that builds and inspires respect, generosity of spirit, and truth telling. Our reconciliation journey is about creating a future based on mutual respect, mutual resolve and mutual responsibility. Reconciliation entwines our paths to share the pain of colonisation.
Our continued path towards reconciliation will reflect the collective wisdom of the school community and partners.
We commit to listening, talking with honesty, telling the truth and working together positively towards measurable outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the wider community. In the spirit of the Uluru Statement from the Heart, the ASMS accepts the invitation to walk with First Nations peoples in a movement of all Australians for a better future.
