VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

For Vermont Secondary College, reconciliation means that all members of our community are granted respect and opportunities. In line with the 5 Dimensions of Reconciliation we are focused on understanding reconciliation and its history, making changes to the curriculum and our school structures, systems and approaches. We aim to prioritise the perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, their knowledge and history.

We see our role as creating a sense of unity and historical acceptance based on a two-way relationship of trust between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous Australians. To contribute to a broader national perspective that creates a new cultural vision to curate a shared sense of identity for all members of the school community by implementing organic symbolism in the school grounds and school life that is not tokenistic.

In line with our school values of Integrity, Respect and Excellence we see reconciliation as a vital part of an evolving culture which results in stronger relationships for all members of the community that are based on trust and respect and that are free of racism.
